FIABCI CARES
FIABCI's Spirit of Share Global Reponsibility for A Better World
The International Real Estate Federation, FIABCI, has shown the world that it cares. In January, Haiti experienced a devastating earthquake. This global disaster had a significant impact and severely affected the country. Haiti is among the world’s poorest countries, and this catastrophe exacerbated the already critical situation for its people.
We sent a message throughout the world to ask our members to help the people of Haiti. Our Federation answered Haiti’s Call For Action with the FIABCI Dominican Republic Chapter, under the leadership of FIABCI-Dominican Republic President Ilonka Castillo and FIABCI-Americas Secretary General Olga Gomez Cuesta, taking the lead. FIABCI Dominican Republic offered to serve as our FIABCI Haiti hub. Chapters and members throughout the world mobilized so we could do our part by offering much needed aid and support to the residents of Haiti.
The outpouring of support was heartwarming and included:
- FIABCI Thailand who sent $14,463 to a milk company so we could facilitate the delivery of milk to the residents of the country
- FIABCI member Cynthia Sonneville who sent $400 which was used to purchase additional milk so desperately needed
- FIABCI World President Lisa Kurrass who provided a box of toys for the Haitian children who lost so much during the disaster
- FIABCI Dominican Republic chapter who set up an account and accepted funding in order to purchase supplies needed. They also coordinated delivery of the products
- The Spanish Consultate who arranged for the transportation of items to Haiti as part of a donation
- FIABCI provided information to members throughout the world for those looking to make a corporate contribution through our partner, the United Nations, who had lost its Haitian headquarters which collapsed along with the main hotel and diplomatic center. Companies were directed to http://business.un.org to learn about specific financial and relief needs in the wake of this tragedy. The United Nations has a UN-Business partnership platform designed to match the needs of UN organizations with the resources and capacities of the private sector in humanitarian emergencies such as this
- In addition, FIABCI Dominican Republic quickly identified the best outlet to deliver products and provided the appropriate contact information so FIABCI members could send help directly. Recommended was the Baptist Haiti Mission (BHM) who was identified as a solid organization that has been helping Haiti for several years. The mission assists a network of more than 330 churches and schools, a hospital, a number of medical clinics, and many community development programs, and is highly recommended by, as a reputable organization
- In total, FIABCI Dominican Republic purchased 45,793 units (250ml) of UTH milk which was provided to the Dominican Red Cross who delivered it to the Haitian Red Cross. The Haitian Red Cross is presently completing paperwork required to deliver milk into Haiti
In the FIABCI spirit of shared global responsibility for a better world, FIABCI appealed to the solidarity of our members and our Chapters to contribute anything they could in order to bring some relief to Haiti during their time of crisis. Our FIABCI family came together to enable us to help the residents of Haiti during their time of need in the most direct manner.
Every day we show the world that FIABCI members are humanitarians who are committed to the global community and to facilitate help when a crisis, the magnitude of the Haitian earthquake, hits.
It is an effort we should all be proud of. Every day, through big and small acts of caring and kindness, FIABCI is showing the world, that together we can make a difference.
