MEET THE CANDIDATES

Tore Braate

Enrico Campagnoli

Question 1:
"Please tell the FIABCI Membership about your professional real estate experience."

"As a long time member of the International Real Estate Federation, I served for nine years as the President of FIABCI Norway. More recently, I am working with our colleagues in Sweden, Denmark, and Finland to establish the FIABCI Nordic Chapter. My children have participated in the FIABCI Young Members programs, and on several occasions, I have hosted our FIABCI Young Professionals in our mountain cabin in Lillehammer. I work closely with our FIABCI Academic member in Norway and have been urged to serve as your World President by our Norwegian Principal Member, NITO. With over 70,000 real estate professionals, NITO has pledged their support for my term, and agreed to provide us with all the benefits of their immense organization as well as an office to help us grow our worldwide FIABCI network."

"Shortly I have more than thirty years of professional experience in real estate, together with my wife Adriana, President for many years in the past of Italian FIABCI Chapter. Founder, CEO, stakeholder of several Real Estate companies, operating with success in Italy, USA and Switzerland, I experienced a large spectrum of professional real estate activities. A company specialized itself in historical building valorisation and restoration: XII century monuments, Portici Neri and Chiavari's Castle qualified themselves in residential category of FIABCI Prix d'Exellence:

The RE valuation professional activity in an other company brought me to be founder and President since nineties of Italian Institute for Real Estate Valuation (IsIVI), www.isivi.it, FIABCI Principal Member. This association underlined several years before the financial global crisis the importance of the RE rating for safe financial products backed by RE assets."

Question 2:
"Why have you decided to run for the office of the World President?"

"As Congress Chairman of the FIABCI Norway World Congress in 2001, I spearheaded initiatives designed to bring the powerful FIABCI network into the hands of all our members. When the current global real estate crisis emerged, the Norway Chapter, once again stepped forward to provide a networking and educational opportunity by presenting a proposal for the FIABCI World Congress 2010. Then as now, FIABCI Norway stands eager to assist when the time is right, and the need exists.

If I have yet to meet you personally, please know that my door is open to you. I am a real estate developer and appraiser. I have been appointed by the Norwegian Court to settle issues regarding valuation and my company, of which I am the Owner and President, has actively been involved in historic restoration and environmentally sensitive projects near to my headquarters north of Oslo. On the other hand, I am actively participating in the advancement of glass and aluminum technology on an international scale. This has given me a unique perspective on the challenges of our plans for the further development of the FIABCI Environmental Foundation."

"Encouraged by several Past World Presidents at FIABCI Vienna Business Days and endorsed by Italian Chapter, I decided to run as President because I considered myself in a position that could allow me in the best way:

  1. to serve our organization to try to minimize the effects of financial crisis on RE sector,
  2. to contribute to give to our organization a more clear strategic role as umbrella organization of private RE sector, through UNECE/REM/Projects with the related FIABCI Principal Members involvement.

Thanks to the Renè Frank FIABCI strategic view and many years of activity in UN, I am the current Chair of a body that is formally part of the United Nation system: the Real Estate Market Advisory Group (REM) of the United Nations Economic Commission for Europe. It is possible to see its role, the term of reference, the programme of work and short history at: http://www.isivi.it/ec/note001 and the last year and ongoing activities at UNECE home web site: http://www.unece.org/hlm/wpla/sessions/6th%20session/item3.02Campagnollo.WPLA.6th.pdf. More detailed info on its role at this moment can be found at: http://www.isivi.it/ec. An UNECE publication “Green Homes”, just issued now also with our suggestions and assistance, is available at: http://www.unece.org/hlm/sessions/docs2009/GreenHomes.pdf. As FIABCI President, it will be easier for me to consolidate and try to extend world wide the advisory role of private RE sector at UN member States for their social and economical benefits and also for a stronger RE private sector after the global financial crisis."

Question 3:
What is your vision for the future of the International Real Estate Federation?

"I believe in FIABCI’s dedication to the United Nations, and support our current initiative toward obtaining our General Consultative Status as well as our participation in the UN Global Compact. The Norwegian government’s program designed to assist in global housing, is currently expressing interest in the Global Housing Foundation, and if elected, I pledge to spearhead a worldwide initiative to champion the cause of world shelter as one of the United Nation’s Millennium Development Goals.

In brief, I desire to establish FIABCI as the leading real estate umbrella association of associations. FIABCI can exist as both an exclusive business club while serving the needs of the real estate industry as a whole. Growing our Academic Members and promoting the activities of FIABCI University will help maintain our position as the global leader in the real estate industry. Utilizing the strengths of the FIABCI Scholarship Foundation and highlighting the opportunities presented through our Prix d’excellence program, FIABCI can deliver on the promise of providing society with the solutions to our real estate related problems."

"The reasons of my candidature show in some way my personal vision of the future of FIABCI: how to implement the role of a traditional RE professional and business organization. It does not means that our organization does not need also to improve its traditional role; it has to be done with a large consensus among all FIABCI stakeholders, to avoid divisions that are now the real danger of our organization. In my vision this umbrella organization of private RE sector could enlarge the role both of Principal Members and National Chapters and, at the end, improve, with its role and prestige, the quality and the number of their members. Friendship, freedom of opinion, no discrimination, respect of different position and statutory rules are common precious assets, that I am committed to consolidate. A strong world leadership with a solid organization, based on our National Chapters, Principal Members, FIABCI Regional structures, able to increase the services to the membership, will be the ground of our positive future, as customary, stable, long term programmed events. I am committed to build our future on a teamwork and a large consensus.

I am strongly supporting an e-revolution to improve the communications, the relations, the business and the capacity of debate and decision, but not of course to substitute the face to face personal relations. On December 4 next, in Bruxelles, I hope we will have, with the FIABCI General Assembly, the celebration of the 60th Anniversary of our organization. I think it will be the time for special thanks to our Past World Presidents, for what they did, and to all the people who made big our Federation with their work in these sixty years. It will be time for wishes for a long term life of FIABCI. I hope you will be there: let's try to make them true, together."
