YOUNG MEMBERS
I hope you are all set for the Brussels December Meeting 2009! The last time I wrote to you was in August 2009 as a follow-up to an email report that had been sent to the FIABCI Young Members. Since then I had written to all Chapter Presidents in September 2009. I sought guidance from the Chapter Presidents and appealed to their leadership to place priority in developing the young members as we are the future of FIABCI! I suggested that one of the key initiatives for young members is to start with local and regional activities first. This is to take into consideration that young members are still at the initial stage of their career, and that they have limited time and resources to explore the FIABCI experience. In the same month, I also attended the China Real Estate Forum in Macau as part of FIABCI delegation that led to the formation of the Macau Chapter. I had the pleasure to network with potential young members, not only from Macau but the greater China region as well. In October 2009, I attended the Board of Directors meeting in Dubai and set up an exhibition booth in Cityscape, Dubai. I had the opportunity to meet up with young members from Europe and Asia in Dubai to gather their feedback and suggestions for development of young members. Towards the end of the month, I flew to Makassar, Indonesia for the FIABCI Asia-Pacific Regional Secretariat Summit and met young members from the Indonesian Chapter. To further our vision in developing young members, I called for support from the various chapters administered by the Regional Secretariat. In addition, I negotiated with the organizing committee for Bali World Congress 2010 for a relevant and affordable young members program during the World Congress. The result of that discussion has led to the formulation of the “FIABCI Ferry Sonneville Award” for Outstanding Contribution to the development of young members. This is to honor individual who share the same vision as our Past World President Ferry Sonneville who is committed to developing the youth in FIABCI. This is a key agenda for the Young Member Committee and one that needs to be put before the Board for its consideration. Now having assisted the recently concluded FIABCI Malaysia Property Award Gala Dinner, I am ready to focus on the upcoming December meeting in Brussels. I therefore call for maximum participation in the meeting from young members, particularly from within affordable traveling distance. Besides that, we encourage Chapters’ leadership to attend the meeting, so that the Young Members Committee could offer their help to develop young members in their respective capacities. I look forward to seeing you on Friday, 4 December 2009, 4.45pm at the Metropole Hotel in Brussels! Sincerely, Chris Tan
